something about kolkata:
Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is the capital of India's West Bengal state. Founded as an East India Company trading post, it was India's capital under the British Raj from 1773–1911. Today it’s known for its grand colonial architecture, art galleries and cultural festivals. It’s also home to Mother House, headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, founded by Mother Teresa, whose tomb is on site.

some history of kolkata:

The discovery and archaeological study of Chandraketugarh, 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Kolkata, provide evidence that the region in which the city stands has been inhabited for over two millennia. Kolkata's recorded history began in 1690 with the arrival of the English East India Company, which was consolidating its trade business in Bengal. Job Charnock, an administrator who worked for the company, was formerly credited as the founder of the city; In response to a public petition, the Calcutta High Court ruled in 2003 that the city does not have a founder. The area occupied by the present-day city encompassed three villages: Kalikata, Gobindapur, and Sutanuti. Kalikata was a fishing village; Sutanuti was a riverside weavers' village. They were part of an estate belonging to the Mughal emperor; the jaigirdari (a land grant bestowed by a king on his noblemen) taxation rights to the villages were held by the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family of landowners, or zamindars. These rights were transferred to the East India Company in 1698.

  • Rabindra sarobar
Rabindra Sarovar Lake or the Dhakuria Lake, as it was known earlier, are the lungs of Kolkata. This is one place in South Kolkata where you can escape the commotion and be with yourself. I remember going there when I was a kid with my grandpa. My brother, my cousins and I used to have a gala time running through the entire stretch, while grandpa continued walking at his usual speed. I remember the badam and muri I had there at that time. Then there was a gap; a gap of 25 years. My association with Dhakuria Lake somehow stopped during that time. I shifted houses and there was no one with whom I could go to the Dhakuria Lake. But something was there in the offering.
